About Systems Research, Inc. (SRI)
Founded in 1970, Systems Research, Inc. (SRI) is a boutique executive search, contingent placement, and professional contract‑staffing firm serving manufacturers and service organizations across the U.S. and globally.
At the core of our business is a mission‑critical, internally developed ColdFusion platform that supports recruiting, sales, finance, and operations. This system runs the business.
We are intentionally investing in its stability, modernization, security, and AI enablement, and we're looking for a senior ColdFusion developer who wants real ownership without the constraints of a traditional full‑time role.
This is not maintenance-only work.
This is meaningful, high‑impact ownership on a flexible basis.
The Engagement
We are seeking a Contract / Part‑Time ColdFusion Developer to help own and evolve our internal platform. You'll work directly with executive leadership and operations to keep the system reliable today while modernizing it for tomorrow.
This role is ideal for:
- Independent consultants
- Fractional engineers
- Senior developers seeking flexible, long‑term engagement
- Developers transitioning out of full‑time roles who still want meaningful work
What You'll Do
- Own and enhance a large, production ColdFusion (CFML) codebase
- Improve system performance, reliability, and security
- Incrementally modernize architecture (no rewrite‑and‑pray)
- Integrate APIs, data sources, and AI‑assisted features
- Help establish and reinforce technical standards and discipline
- Collaborate directly with leadership on priorities and roadmaps
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain ColdFusion (CFML) applications
- Support and enhance a mission‑critical internal CRM / ATS / ERP‑style system
- Optimize SQL queries and database interactions (SQL Server preferred)
- Implement security best practices, role‑based access, and audit controls
- Integrate third‑party services and internal APIs
- Participate in modernization efforts (refactoring, cleanup, performance tuning)
- Document systems, workflows, and technical decisions clearly
Required Experience
- 5+ years of professional ColdFusion (CFML) development
- Strong experience with Adobe ColdFusion (Lucee a plus)
- Solid SQL skills (SQL Server preferred)
- Experience maintaining and improving legacy systems
- Comfort working in business‑critical production environments
- Ability to think in systems, not just tickets
- Clear communication and documentation skills
Strongly Preferred
- Experience modernizing legacy applications
- JavaScript, HTML, and CSS familiarity
- REST API development and integration
- Experience working directly with non‑technical business stakeholders
- Exposure to AI integrations, automation, or data enrichment
- Familiarity with security‑conscious or compliance‑minded environments
Why This Engagement Is Different
- Your work directly impacts revenue and operations
- Direct access to executive leadership - no layers, no bureaucracy
- One system, deep ownership (no client churn)
- Modernization with intention, not constant firefighting
- Stable, profitable company with a 50+ year track record
- Long‑term mindset - not a short‑term "band‑aid" contract
Engagement Details
- Contract or part‑time engagement (hours flexible)
- Remote‑friendly
- Competitive hourly or retainer‑based compensation (commensurate with experience)
- Long‑term potential for continued engagement
- Flexible schedule built around outcomes, not clock‑watching
